Each of these four fractals map exactly the same portion of the same Julia
map. They each split the area into two regions, and use exactly the same color
maps to color the two regions. Yet, they each achieve a different effect as a
result of different choices of orbit trap or other parameters. Click on each
one to see a 640x480 rendering with a short description of the technique used.
The color map was originally taken from a stalk-type fractal I had done (at
left), but the effect produced by the color map changed dramatically when I
started making other choices of orbit trap shape. The fourth spiral especially
looks to me as if it were made of candy, hence the choice of name for this
family of fractals.
"Candy Spiral" is one of my favorites and has been in my gallery for quite a
while. Next week we go to the other extreme: a fractal produced by a
development version of Fractal Domains that is so new that I haven't even
augmented the file format to save the parameters -- so I have the image, but
not the parameters! Stay tuned...
