Fractal of the Week for February 9, 1999

Venus Flytrap

Portion of a Julia set based Newton's method applied to the formula z^4 - 2z^2 + 1. The resulting fomula had the constant c = 0.1i added to it. It was generated with an annular orbit trap (i.e. the circular orbit trap with a non-zero inner radius), and the traps were mapped with five distinct color maps.

I have another one that I like even more that is based on a closely related formula. I will probably feature it as a "Fractal of the Week" in a couple of weeks.
