Gathering

Here is a fractal image closely related to the “Venus Flytrap” image of a couple of weeks ago. You can see the similarity immediately but I think this image is much more interesting (I have to get away from using the default color gradient maps, though. Next week I’ll have one with …

Outta Here!

I promised Ronda that I would post one of her fractals as a “Fractal of the Week” since she’s been on a roll lately. This is a recent favorite.

Venus Flytrap

Portion of a Julia set based Newton’s method applied to the formula z^4 – 2z^2 + 1. The resulting fomula had the constant c = 0.1i added to it. It was generated with an annular orbit trap (i.e. the circular orbit trap with a non-zero inner radius), and the traps were mapped …

Droop

Portion of a Julia set based on the formula z/(z^2 + 1) + c, c = 0.06 – 0.02 i . It was generated with the “imaginary stalks” orbit trap option, and the stalks were mapped with two distinct color maps.

I’m quite fond of this one. I may rename it someday …

Phalanx

Portion of a Julia set based on the formula (z^3 + 1) / (z^3 – 1) + c, c = 1.16 – 0.04 i.

Alien Desert

Portion of a Julia set based on the formula (z^20 + 1) / (z^20 – 1) + c, c = 1.7 – 0.12i. Since the formula tends to the value 1 as z gets large, this formula has no “escape” region, so the color map is based entirely on fixed point convergence.

Undulate

Portion of a Julia set based on the formula (z^20 + 1) / (z^20 – 1). Since the formula tends to the value 1 as z gets large, this formula has no “escape” region, so the color map is based entirely on fixed point convergence.

Convergence

Yikes! It’s been almost a month since I’ve posted a new fractal here! I’ve been busy getting the final release of Fractal Domains v1.3 ready, but it’s close now, so hopefully I can resume posting images here more regularly.

Here’s a break from the “contest entry” images shown in this spot in …

Triptych

The fractal contest at the Fractalus site is over. The entries can now be revealed. See my entries page to see the images I personally entered and the ones that I considered entering.

This one is my favorite of the three, and my family thought it was pretty good …

Dazzle

Here’s another fractal that was in the final cut to submit to the fractal contest at the Fractalus site. Now that all of the entries are on display, I can see that the ones I submitted probably don’t have a chance. (If you haven’t already, check it out! The contest site …
